The field of biotechnology has brought a number of new cotton varieties in the market but we have not taken note of the fact that the ability of biotechnology to change the way various cotton varieties are produced is quite far off from being exploited.
Biotechnology has changed the manner in which cotton is being grown around the world. Year 2005 and 2006 has seen a number of varieties of cotton come up and this is expected to fuel developments in this field.
Now you have a variety of cotton from companies such as Monsanto, Bayer which have been developed using biotechnology. In 2006 around one hundred and forty cottonseed options were available and if the trend continues you might see more varieties in 2007. Expect more breakthroughs in the coming years but for this purpose the producers would have to evolve themselves.
