Stem cell research is one such area where the world does not have a unanimous decision and where some people are against it, some are in favor of it and others simply don’t know what to do. The controversy associated with embryonic stem cell research is with regards to the destruction of the embryo when cells are extracted and though embryos are being used for in-vitro fertility treatment there are a number of people who are opposed to stem cell research on the basis that embryos are just the start of human life. People who are for embryonic stem cell researches state that embryo should not be given the same importance as the fetus and though they agree that embryos are being destroyed but they further say that the benefits offered are far more when compared to the downside. People who oppose embryonic stem cell research are pro life campaigners who believe that destruction of embryos leads to the destruction of human life and these people are generally against embryonic stem cell research rather than stem cell research. There are also some people who are against stem cell research since they feel that it would lead to reproductive cloning. The controversy associated with stem cell research is expected to continue until and unless a proper consensus is reached on this issue.

Human embryonic stem cells or hESCs could go a long way in giving relief from degenerative diseases by multiple mechanism invoking. These cells can be grown without the requirement of animal feeder layers or immunosuppression. In order to highlight the effectiveness of stem cells the researchers used mouse neural stem cells for establishing the parameters of what could be achieved. The researchers also studied the stem cells of human origin and compared both the cells in order to highlight the usefulness of human embryonic stem cells in treatment of degenerative diseases and preservation of human life. The researchers were able to figure out that the implanted neural stem cells contributed much more than just replacement of brain tissues destroyed by the disease and some of the nerve cells which were replaced even transmitted nerve impulse hence suggesting that stem cell derived could integrate functionally into a diseased brain.
